GOD’S MESSAGE IN NATURE
EARTH DAY THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING
Romans 1:20: "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things he has made."
Each year, since the first Earth Day in 1970, bells ring at the United Nations and in many parts of the world, signaling the March Equinox the beginning of Spring. At this special moment a six month long day will begin at the North Pole and six month long night at the South Pole. This is the occasion when night and day are equal all over the world.
The first day of Spring is a divine symbol and promise of new life. Plants that have died will now be reborn in the seeds they have left.
Spring is the time for new life and new beginnings.
On this occasion people of every creed and culture join in silent prayer to deepen their commitment to the care of our planet. Earth Day is about Earth and the need for everyone to act as responsible trustees of Earth the stewardship role God has given us. "Let them rule over the Earth." (Gen1:26) We must give account of our stewardship (Luke 16:2)
Earth Day and its March moment of equipoise provides a unique opportunity for Christians to affirm their faith and the power of agreement. Jesus stated, "If two of you agree on earth as touching anything they shall ask, it shall be done for them by my father in heaven." (Matthew 18:19) This is a day for church services devoted to prayer and planning actions to help the environment..
Celebrating Earth Day can deepen awareness of nature and commitment to think and act as a trustee of Earth when we buy, when we invest and in our daily conduct. Let the day be a special time of thanksgiving for God’s love and appreciation of our responsibility to nurture the wonderful web of life that covers our globe.
