It's Thanksgiving Day in Canada on Monday October 11th and Columbus Day in the USA on the same day. I received a letter from my friend Christopher Chase in Japan asking me how we should celebrate Columbus Day and I really have mixed feelings about this historic figure. When I was growing up, he was a hero in all the history books. Then lately, we found out how devastating his discovery of the new world really was. I don't know how to feel about the fact that in some bizarre way, I am one of his descendants. Columbus is the anglicized version of Colombo.

John McConnell, the founder of Earth Day, was invited to the GLOBAL CITY-REGIONS CONFERENCE hosted by the UCLA School of Public Policy and Social Research, from OCTOBER 21 to 23, 1999. He will be submitting a proposal for all the cities of the world to endorse and implement the Earth Trustee Agenda.
