Statement
By Burrell Webb about "Footprints in the Sand"
Know all mankind by these
presents that I, Burrell Webb am the original author of the
work titled "FOOTPRINTS" (aka: footprints in
the sand, aka: I had a dream, aka: One night I had a dream, et
al.)
Know that no one authored
my work before me. No one authored my work after me. No one
authored my work besides me and no one authored my work
instead of me. The work in fact is nothing but a conversation
that I had with the LORD.
I was an orphan and as is
usual with orphans, I was bitterly abused all of my life.
During my 18 - 19 Th. year I came to a point where I could no
longer deal with the abuse and I was talking to the LORD about
my horrible life.
The words attributed to me ( the man in the prose) essentially embody my words and thoughts as I expressed them to the LORD. The LORD'S response in the prose is essentially what the LORD answered back to me. You will note our conversation is not remarkable except in the part where the LORD answered me. It is that part and that alone which has carried it around the world and into the hearts of so many people.
It helped me so much that
I decided to share it with the world so I took it to a person
who published it for me and it has spread from there to where
it is today.
I deliberately left it
with the author unknown so that everyone could enjoy it and
benefit from it freely. In retrospect I am afraid that
this was a mistake on my part. I should have realized that
weak persons would be tempted to claim and try to profit from
it, thereby falling into sin. For this I am profoundly sorry.
I deeply regret that I have caused brothers and sisters in the
LORD to stumble. I humbly beg forgiveness for my
inequity and for the harm that it has caused.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; One belonged to him the other to the LORD. When the last scene from his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life, there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the lowest, saddest times of his life. This really bothered him, and he questioned the LORD about it. "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all of the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed you the most you would leave me." The LORD replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you. "
by Burrell Webb Having thus defined my work and having laid my claim before you; To any who challenge and to any who question or doubt the validity of my claim I offer the following; That I will agree to submit to polygraph testing by any third party anywhere in the world provided that transportation and temporary quarters are provided for me until I am returned to my home. I further propose to all claimants of my work that they join with me in submitting to the same polygraph examination. If their claims are true they have nothing to fear from the polygraph. I took the step of going to the state police polygraph examiner on the 7th of May, 2005 and having myself tested to prove my authenticity.
